Brow Tutorial for Long Lasting Brows

My Review of Freedom’s Bulletproof  Brow Pomade and my current brow routine with photos and swatches.freedom-bulletproof-brow-pomade-long-lasting-brow-tutorial-packagingI reviewed Bobbi Brown’s Brow Gel a while back and found it lacking in pigment and staying power. I’ve since been harbouring brow disappointment. I’m growing my brows back after the 2 decades of fashion foolishness that was “the commas as eyebrows look”. Hence I have strange, spiky, bit here, bit there eyebrows that require daily makeup.
Powder brow make up works fine but it doesn’t have any resistance to smudging unfortunately. A pomade is ideal because it sets, or it should do, the Bobbi Brown one didn’t.

I got this rather marvellous pomade from Freedom (loving Freedom at the moment). I bought it initially in Soft Brown, then quickly realised that I had bought the wrong colour- too red! I needed Medium Brown- a cool toned brown. Medium Brown has been out of stock for weeks. After much checking of the website (both Superdrug and Freedom, where you can get it from) and after trying several different Superdrug shops, I finally got my hands on one. I’ve heard it’s really similar to Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow, which is meant to be excellent.

Freedom does 11 shades of the pomade- from Blonde to Black with Browns, Taupe and Auburn in between. For a black haired pale skinned person like me Medium Brown is an ideal cool toned brown. Here’s how they swatch-

The pomade is highly pigmented and easy to move around and blend. The formula is creamy rather than a gel. It’s pigmented so you only need a small amount for each brow. This is how I apply Freedom Brow Pomade-

  1. My natural brow (blurg!)freedom-bulletproof-brow-pomade-long-lasting-brow-tutorial-before
  2. I start applying in the middle of my brow, that is where you need the most colour density. I demarcate the bottom margin and fill in freedom-bulletproof-brow-pomade-long-lasting-brow-tutorial-application
  3. Then dip into the pomade again and fill in the tail of the browfreedom-bulletproof-brow-pomade-long-lasting-brow-tutorial-application
  4. Then with what’s left on the brush I gently fill in the innermost bit, next to my nose. This part should be the faintest area, otherwise it looks blocky and fake.freedom-bulletproof-brow-pomade-long-lasting-brow-tutorial-application
  5. Then blend the colour in with a Spoolie. freedom-bulletproof-brow-pomade-long-lasting-brow-tutorial-afterThat’s better!

The best thing about Freedom’s brow pomade is it’s staying power.  It takes about 5 minutes to set, so you get plenty of working time. When it’s set it’s resistant to smudging, water and to a certain extent oil (there’s a little wear by the end of the day). I tried to wipe off my swatches with a baby wipe, it laughed in the wipe’s face!-

freedom-bulletproof-brow-pomade-long-lasting-brow-tutorial-swatchesIt’s really excellent. I promise it’s not going to run down your face if it rains. Freedom claims this pomade is “Bulletproof”, I’m not going to test that claim.

You get 5g of the pomade for £5. That’s a bargain in my book. I did have trouble getting hold of the Medium Brown shade, it was out of stock everywhere. It’s in stock now at

I think the only downside to this product is how tricky it is choosing the right shade. Taupe or Blonde are good for those with fair hair; girls with Warm Tones check out Soft Brown, Auburn, Chocolate and Caramel; Cool toned brunettes look for Medium Brown, Dark Brown, Ash Brown; if you have black hair and dark skin then Ebony or Granite are for you. I didn’t see any testers in Superdrug which is a bit of a pain.

Overview of Freedom’s Brow Pomade

  • The price- only £5
  • The colour is a great match
  • Easy to apply and blend for a natural but defined look
  • Long lasting
  • Highly pigmented

  • Some difficulty choosing the right shade.

Freedom Brow Pomade is a great product at a great price. It makes doing my brows so easy and quick, and my brows are neat all day. Winner!

I read this today and have bought some on your recommendation!! I have to paint on my eyebrows daily as without it they are so blonde they are almost see through. I am currently using a mascara wand style one, but it just ends up looking clumpy and a bit crap.

I bought the freedom one in a pallet, so if I am going out I can go a bit darker, can’t wait to try it!

Your review is awesome, love seeing the swatches and the pros and cons! Thanks Nia xx

    1. Thanks Leah. Send me photos puhlease! Those mascara jobbys aren’t the best. Better for fixing eyebrows in place after filling them in probably.
Doing my brows makes me feel like a different person, a neater more dynamic person. Xx

  4. I like the colour, it suits you X
