Work suitable makeup inspiration- products you need for workplace suitable makeup perfection.
For some of us I know this isn’t an issue. If you work, say, down a Mine or if you’re a deep sea diver, maybe you wouldn’t be bothered about foundation. If you work from home, where only person you see all day is the postman then makeup could be seen as a waste of time. You might work on a makeup counter, in which case you’re going to be like “I wear all the makeup, I know what I’m doing with it and your advice is useless to me!”. That’s totally fine, I don’t want to stereotype anyone.
But if you like to wear a bit of slap and if your workplace is anything like mine. That is, stressful, busy, and short of available moments for makeup reapplication, you’ll need a strategy. My makeup needs in work are thus-
- It must be easy to apply. I’m usually doing my makeup before my eyes are able to focus properly so it can’t be something I can mess up easily, liquid eyeliner is a no no.
- It has to be QUICK!! Less time spent on makeup means more time snoozing. Makeup has to be the sort you stick on and rub into place with a fingertip. Multiple shades of eyeshadow which have to be blended with different shaped brushes are off the menu on a work day.
- I need to look smart and professional. That’s not to say I am prepared to lose all sense of self. I enjoy applying makeup and changing the way I look. I’m going to be bored if I lay off it, so I refuse to leave the house without the warpaint. But I’m not allowed to look all disco in my job, more’s the pity.
- The makeup must stay on! My day is not makeup friendly. My lipstick is all over a coffee cup, I’m rushing about, getting hot and losing my foundation all over shop. Eyes get rubbed. The makeup must be hardcore!
These are some of the gems I’ve picked up that fit my “works for work” criteria.
Estée Lauder Doublewear Foundation
This makeup is arguably the longest lasting foundation known to mankind. It’s the only foundation I’ve used that has lasted a whole day. It’s heavy duty, mind you, so if you want to look natural this might not be your bag. It does stay on though, credit where credit is due.
Kiko Long Lasting Non Transfer Eyeshadow Stick These sticks are the bomb! Like the Doublewear, they stay on all day. There’s no creasing or smudging. Lots of makeup brands do these sort of sticks (Rosie for Autograph, Eyeko, Rimmel, Lancôme to name a few) and they are a fantastic idea for work eye makeup. Just draw on roughly and smudge with your finger. No need for brushes or primer, they work great on their own. I’ve done a video on My Instagram to demonstrate how easy it is.I just use a light shade across my lid and a darker on in the crease and blend with a fingertip. It takes seconds.
Eyeko Sport Waterproof and Smudgeproof Mascara
There are loads of good smudgeproof mascaras to choose from. I like Bourjois Clubbing, They’re Real by Benefit and In Extreme Dimension by MAC (even though it’s a pig to get off)- none of these smudge. I hate it when I glance at the mirror at the end of a day in work and I’m looking all tired and bedraggled because my mascara is making a break for my cheeks. Not a good look.
Eyeko Sport has a lovely curved brush, it creates natural looking, work appropriate, long lasting lashes. It’s meant to stay on while you’re doing sport.
Clinique Chubby Stick Tinted Lip Balm
I’ve got a few of these sorts of tinted lip balms knocking about in my work bag. (As well as some old fruit and millions of broken pens). You can just chuck it on quickly for a bit of colour and moisture. I don’t wear lipstick to work myself, I find it too messy. Tinted lip balm is a perfect compromise for me.
Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer
This is a perfect work bag product. It comprises of two shades of concealer- one yellow toned for brightening the under eye, one flesh toned for concealing spots; a translucent powder and a powder puff. All in one small compact. It’s a great space saver.
Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick
I’ve chosen this because of its scribble-ability. You just draw it onto your cheeks and rub it in with fingers to give a little warmth. It’s even quicker if you put it on before foundation. Charlotte Tilbury beach stick in Es Vedra is such a gorgeous Coral red and it has a bit of shimmer too, great for that corpse-like morning pallor.
Freedom Brow Pomade
This is one of my favourite budget buys. Read more Here. Freedom brow pomade creates a long lasting natural brow. Nyx, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Wunderbrow do similar long lasting brow products.
Brows feature heavily in my Work makeup these days. Neat brows give a made up polished effect without looking like you’re off to the club. Want to look smart? Sort your brows out girls!
Hope this post has given some food for thought if you’re looking to update your work makeup routine.
