My and Swatches of Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Creams, an absolute dupe for Nyx soft matte Lip Cream.
Who doesn’t love a little bargainous beauty find? Me! I don’t not love finding something cheaper than a coffee that works really well, perhaps better than a more expensive version. There’s something so pleasing about it, it makes you want to tell everyone about your find. Collection Velvet Kiss Lip Cream is such a find.
I’m rather fond of a few items that British brand Collection make- Collection Loose Powder and Lasting Perfection Concealer are as good as their high end counterparts in my view. Velvet Kiss Lip Cream ( I do find the name a little cheesy, Velvet Kiss indeed!) is described by Collection as
– A comfortable moisturising liquid lip cream. Velvet Kiss leaves a matte velvet finish on the lips without drying them.

Collection Velvet Kiss Review- My Impressions
Most people have heard of Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream by now, it’s one of Nyx’s best sellers. Velvet Kiss is the same deal. A liquid lipstick with a cream consistency that dries to a matte finish. The packaging consists of a squat cylindrical plastic tube with a doe foot applicator.
There is a selection of 6 shades to choose from- here are the Swatches–
- Cotton candy- a rose pink
- Caramel- a brown/nude
- Rose- a pillar box red
- Mango- bright orange
- Mulberry- a wine colour
- Blackberry- a dark purple
I would say Collection have covered all bases with their shades but it’s a pretty small selection. Nyx does lip creams in 34 colours. I’m not overly keen on the shade Mango. It could work on someone with dark skin. I went for Mulberry, a deep plum/wine colour.
Collection Velvet Kiss has excellent pigmentation. You only need a small amount of product to make a strong impact. The texture is of a cream rather than a liquid. I find some liquid lipsticks so fluid that you have to be really careful with application. One wrong move and you’re in a world of pain trying to correct the line. Collection Velvet Kiss is easy to apply.
There are two methods I have used for putting on Collection Velvet Kiss Lip Cream.
- Apply a small amount with my finger tip then a balm on top for a sheer berry stain
- Apply a thicker layer with a lip brush for a full on matte look
To be honest the photos don’t do the colour justice. It is much more plum like than the pictures look, more dramatic.
The finish is properly matte when dried down completely. It takes a good 5-10 minutes to dry. I didn’t know if I would describe it as moisturising exactly. Velvet Kiss is softhen it dries completely my lips do feel dry. Not unbearably so though, and my lips are particularly chapped at the moment.
The staying power is awesome. When applied with a brush in a decent layer then allowed to dry then reapplied Collection Velvet Kiss didn’t budge for pretty much the whole day. It lasted through coffee definitely, I ate some ramen crackers, still there. After eating a buttered crumpet it was nearly completely present, apart from a bit of wear towards the centre of my lips. I chased my kids about and smooched them vigorously on the head, there was only the tiniest bit of transfer. Collection Velvet Kiss comes off fairly easily with a wet wipe, you’re going to need to pop some lip balm on after doing that or your lips will turn into cornflakes.
Collection Velvet Kiss Lip Cream Overview
Essentially Velvet Kiss is a really long lasting matte lipstick in a cream form. It stays on really well, it’s extremely cheap, the shade selection is small but I like all of the colours (apart from the orange one).
Collection Velvet Kiss is definitely a dupe for Nyx Lip Cream. It’s only £1.50 cheaper than the Nyx version but if you can’t get hold of theNyx Lip Cream, the Collection version is exactly the same.
Collection Velvet Kiss Lip Cream is £2.99 and available from Boots.com
